Linking Ideas using Themes
Thematic progressions
Some Themes develop information given in only one previous Theme or in the previous New. However, often there will either be a systematic progression of the same idea across a number of Themes, or a progression of different ideas from each New.
Focus on topic
When there is a progression of the same idea across all or most Themes in a paragraph, this maintains a clear focus on the topic across the whole paragraph.
Build up to main point
When there is a progression of ideas from each previous New in all or most Themes, this helps the paragraph build up to a main point at the end of the paragraph.
