Information Structure and the Paragraph
Choosing appropriate Information Structure, or in other words, organising and staging the information in a sentence, depends on the following:
- what your text and paragraph are about - the topic, focus and purpose of the paragraph
- what information is in previous sentences.
- what you plan to put in following sentences.
- how much grammatical knowledge you have - the more you have, the more possible Information Structures you can choose from.
In your text and paragraph, only one of the many possible ways of staging information in a sentence, may make the meaning clear in the paragraph.
