Types of Logical Relations

There are a number of logical connections that are used to link ideas in academic writing; these can be grouped into five main types:

Addition & Replacementwhere extra information is simply added or one idea replaces anotherSee an example
Comparison & Contrastwhere two ideas are presented as either similar or differentSee an example
Exemplification & Restatementwhere a previously mentioned idea is repeated by rewording it or giving an exampleSee an example
