Vocabulary 2. Synonymy in Academic Paragraphs

Synonymy and Antonymy are important types of lexical cohesion in academic texts because:

Synonymy helps you develop complex ideas and information across your text by relating more abstract or specialised, technical terms to everyday and concrete words which have similar meaning.
Synonymy more importantly, also helps you develop complex ideas by identifying distinctions between ideas which may be similar, but are not the same.
Synonymy and Antonymy both help you analyse, organise and discuss your ideas by showing relationships of similarity and contrast between ideas.
