Structuring the Conclusion

Scientific Language



Here is a diagram of the typical stages of a Conclusion section. Note the link back to the Introduction and the movement from specific back to general.

Click on the stage links in the diagram to see which questions are answered in each stage. Click on the example link to see an example of each stage of a student's Conclusion entitled 'Relationship between Stimulus Amplitude and Response Amplitude in the Sciatic Nerve of the Queensland Cane Toad'. Stages 1 and 2 can also occur the same sentence, e.g. 'Overall, the results support the hypothesis that an increase in stimulus strength produces an increase in response until a maximal response is reached'.
